Horse Training Know-Hows

Discern the reason for the problem first if you’re having troubles with your horse. Why is your horse misbehaving.? What is troubling him.? Recognize the problem areas and find a way to solve it. It is best if you will study horse training first before you start training your horse.

Understand the psychology of your horse. Don’t think that animals don’t have any feelings. Horses, eventhough they are animals, have feelings too. Your horse might feel that everytime you see him you would ask him to leave his friends and just work. Your horse might be hurt that’s why he is opposing to your commands to let you know that something’s wrong.

Check the saddle and girdle properly. If you ride on him and he became uneasy the saddle and the girdle might be hurting him. Your posture and your weight might be causing discomfort to your horse’s back too. Does you horse tend to bite.? If the girth is too tight it might cause your horse to start biting when you pinch it. Doing many hand treats to your house would make him feel that even the hand is a treat. That’s why you have to check that one too.

If you feel that your horse is not accurate in picking leads, first make a check on the leads you are giving to your horse. Horses are very smart animals so there might be problems with your leads or they might not be clear enough for him.

Keep your anger and frustration in check at all times, it would never work. You will just scare your horse if you will shout or scream at him. Scaring your horse would only make him unruly. Be gentle but firm when training a horse. In horse training anger has certainly no bearing. If you feel your temper flaring take a break and give your horse a break too. It is best to ask help from an experienced trainer.

Every horse has its own individuality. There are some horses who are fast-learners while there are also some who aren’t. Setting deadlines is a no-no. Don’t rush things up and give your horse enough time to be trained.

Horses are very receptive to moods and may react as per your moods. Seeing you in anger can send him in frenzy. Make your horse feel that you are fond of him and just stay calm. By being more caring and affectionate to your horse, he would be more responsive of the training. If you are running short of time do some activity which would not need you to rush, just have a walk around with him instead.

Horse training entails a lot of patience. Prior to training your horse, it is best to study about horse training first and plan your training schedules plus have your training gears ready. It is not a rush job that can be completed quickly. Give yourself and your horse enough time to be able to show good results. Give him lots of positive reinforcement and you would have trained your horse in no time.
