A well-trained dog can keep the peace in your home, for canine and humans alike. Give the tips that follow a try. Some of these tips might make a difference in the relationship you share with your dog.
Try to see things from your dog’s perspective. A lot of owners get frustrated when their dog is not understanding a basic command. Instead of giving up entirely, you might consider trying to put yourself in your dog’s mindset. Trying to see things the way that your dog does may be able to give you an idea of the right kind of training for your dog.
Don’t allow your dog to jump on you when you get home. Playtime is great but sometimes it is just not appropriate. Do not acknowledge the animal when you enter and by doing so, you create a controlled atmosphere in which you decide how and when play time begins.
You should not tie up multiple dogs where they can reach each other, no matter how friendly they are. Their chains could get tangled up and as they struggle to get free; there is a good chance the dogs can get injured. Particularly in the case of a large dog and a small dog, the animals may get so tangled that the smaller dog has his airway cut off and dies.
Pick the proper size crate for your dog if you want to be able to effectively use the crate to train it. Don’t forget that puppies get bigger. You must be able to accommodate the growth your puppy will experience as he ages. A larger crate allows for continued comfort and happiness. The ideal size would be one that doesn’t make your dog crowded when turning around or laying down.
When approaching a dog you’ve never met, approach them slowly and offer them the back of a hand to smell. This helps the dog become familiar with your scent and engenders trust. The dog will no longer be afraid after he is able to recongnize the scent and may begin to follow commands.
Dogs need routine, so feed your dog at the same time every day. This also helps with training. This will give you the opportunity to understand when your dog needs to go to the bathroom. A schedule will train your dog to know when he will get to go out next.
You need to teach your dog right away that they should drop or back away from something when you say “leave it.” This simple command is beneficial in making him stop on chewing furniture inside the house.
Be mindful of how long the sessions are when you train your dog. If you spend a lot of time on only one thing, your dog can get bored and frustrated. Do not spend more than 10 minutes on each session.
Make sure your dog gets plenty of exercise in addition to scheduled training and potty break sessions. When your dog gets enough exercise, training sessions are usually more effective and produce faster results. A dog who has proper training and enough play time will be a happy dog.
Whatever age your dog may be, or whatever problems he may have, you’ll find these tips useful. After following the advice, it is important to be patient. After this, your pet will be happier and healthier.
