The day your new puppy comes home with you will be filled with joy. That said, they can become overwhelming quickly. When you’re cleaning up piles of poop, you may regret your decision. However, it’s possible to feel the joy you experienced whenever you first got your dog by training your dog effectively. In this article we’re going to go over some of the tips of the trade in training man’s best friend.
It takes small steps to crate train your puppy; they must become accustomed to it. If your dog seems comfortable inside the crate when the door is open, shut it and feed them a treat. Only keep the gate closed for short periods of time at first and increase time slowly. If you notice the animal becoming tense or confused, you are probably proceeding too quickly.
Consistency is of the utmost importance when it comes to crate training. When letting a puppy out of a crate, you need to let them relieve themselves immediately. Your puppy will eventually become able to relieve itself less frequently.
To have success in training your dog, you need to be able to control it with commands. Your dog must understand that you’re in control, so that he knows to obey and respect you. Always walk in front, in the leadership position, letting your dog follow behind.
When you start puppy training, come up with a verbal cue that will tell your pet they’ve followed your command. Even a simple monosyllabic spoken ‘yes’ can help the dog to connect the desired behavior with the imminent reward.
It is very easy to teach a pooch to roll over as long as you have some tasty treats on hand. First, make your dog lay down. Next, hold a treat near the floor on one side of his head, slowly bring the treat up and over the dogs head to the other side. He will naturally use his nose to follow the treat, thus rolling over his whole body. As he is rolling over, give the “roll over” command, and do this repeatedly until he can roll over with just the command and without the treat. Do not get mad if it takes several tries. Once they learn this particular trick, they will be popular at the dog park!
Training your dog requires much love and patience. These tips will get you and your pup started on a great relationship. Success won’t happen right away, but if you are consistent, it will happen.
